Remembrance day is also known as armed force day which is the federal holiday in US. memorial day observed in the last Monday of May every year.

Armed Force Day is celebrate to pay tribute to all those who died while in the military service. Formerly this day was known as Decoration Day, as on this day people used to decorate the graves of the soldiers. It is believed that in 1865, Henry C. Welles, a druggist in the village of Waterloo, NY, suggested at a social gathering to honor the patriotic dead by decorating their graves. Officially the first Memorial Day was observed by General John A. Logan on 5th May 1868. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York, in 1873. Nowadays People celebrate Memorial Day (Armed Force Day/Remembrance Day/Decoration Day) by visiting cemeteries, decorating the graves of the soldiers with flowers and flags. Parades and functions are arranged throughout the country. More over this is a day to remember all those who sacrificed their lives for the nation and to pay homage to their souls.

Memorial Day this year is especially important as we are reminded almost daily of the great sacrifices that the men and women of the Armed Services make to defend our way of life. (Said by Robin Hayes)

Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can honor their sacrifice. (Said by President Barack Obama)

My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. (Said by John F. Kennedy)

The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission. (Said by John F. Kennedy)

A man’s country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle and patriotism is loyalty to that principle.

Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can honor their sacrifice – (President Barack Obama)

The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example. (Benjamin Disraeli)

I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.

There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured with what is right in America.

Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!

They are dead; but they live in each Patriot’s breast, And their names are engraven on honor’s bright crest. Said by: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened. Said by: Billy Graham

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. Said by: John F. Kennedy

The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.Said by: Jeff Miller

Green sods are all their headstones, and yet it tells nobler experiences than pillared slows or the everlasting pyramids.~ James Gates Percival

Isn't  death to fall for Freedom's right? He's dead alone who fault her lamp!~ Thomas Campbell

They settled, but o'er their noble tomb  free the emblem of the cause they died to  save.~ Francis Marion Crawford

Death leaves an anguish no one can salve, desire leaves a memory no one can move.~ From a  gravestone in Ireland

Blow out, you bugles, over the rich Dead! There's none of these so lonely and poverty-  stricken of old, but, disappearing, has met us rarer knacks than golden.~ Rupert Brooke

For love of country they consented death ...~ James A. Garfield

A Day to Remember

There is a day we stop and remember,
The men who fought with bravery.
Those who shed their blood and lost their lives,
So our country could live in liberty.

There is a day we stop and remember
The colors that we love.
The red, white and blue of freedom,
That fit our country like a glove.

White for purity of purpose,
Red for valor during battle,
Blue for justice paid to those who threaten us,
Are the gifts our Lord blessed upon our men.

There is a day we stop and remember,
That our men have not died in vain.
For after every battle is won,
Our country’s standards reign.

Wave a flag,
Place a flower upon a grave,
Say a prayer of thanks on Memorial Day.
For the price of freedom was freely paid.

Today we honor all of you,
Who served your country with pride,
You risked your life for all of us,
As you fought side by side.

Your strength and courage always showed,
No matter what the danger might be,
And you did all of this,
So that we could all be free.

Thank you all for what you’ve done,
And now we will all pray,
For each and everyone of you,
On this Memorial Day.

The flag of our nation, a flag under God.
To our flag we will always be true.
Stand proud, stand tall with hand over heart,
as we honor the red, white, and blue.

A symbol of freedom. A banner for all
who reside underneath it’s proud wave.
Though battered and torn, shattered and worn,
It flies, o’er the home of the brave.

Stand proud, stand tall, with hand over heart,
with respect for this flag we so love.
May this land always be, strong and free,
and protected by God from above.

We are a proud nation. One under God.
It was He who gave us this land.
Free we remain, to praise His great name.
Rise up, and for God make a stand.

Our flag has flown high over battlefields.
Covered caskets of daughters and sons.
Great is the cost, through lives that are lost.
We’ll gratefully remember each one.

Stand proud, stand tall, with hand over heart,
with respect for this flag that we love.
May this land always be, strong and free,
and protected by God from above.

Thank you so much to all the servicemen and women who have gone above and beyond protecting our country. Happy Memorial Day”

There was nothing macho about the war at all. We were a bunch of scared kids who had a job to do.

The contribution made by the soldiers in bringing freedom to America is beyond expression. Let us thank them for their courage and promise to follow the legacy.

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As TAPS began to play.
The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.
They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.
I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.
Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,
Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.
This Poem was composed by C W Johnson

A handful of old men walking down the village street
In worn, brushed uniforms, their gray heads high;
A faded flag above them, one drum to lift their feet-
Look again, O heart of mine, and see what passes by!
There's a vast crowd swaying, there's a wild band playing,
The streets are full of marching men, or tramping cavalry.
Alive and young and straight again, they ride to greet a mate again-
The gallant souls, the great souls that live eternally!
A handful of old men walking down the highways?
Nay, we look on heroes that march among their peers,
The great, glad Companions have swung from heaven's byways
And come to join their own again across the dusty years.
There are strong hands meeting, there are staunch hearts greeting-
A crying of remembered names, of deeds that shall not die.
A handful of old men?-Nay, my heart, look well again;
The spirit of America today is marching by!
Poem composed by Theodosia Pickering Garrison
